Ukraine and Moldova granted candidate status for EU accession

European Union leaders have backed granting Ukraine and Moldova EU candidate status. Summit, at which the issue was resolved, began on Thursday, June 23. Representatives of all 27 EU countries voted in favor of Ukraine’s candidacy.

Today is a great day for our state. After all, now we have an additional legal entrenchment of the European future, as well as a number of economic benefits. Ahead of us is painstaking work for full accession.

The European Council’s decision on the status of candidate country for membership in the European Union will go down in the annals of Ukrainian history forever. The country has united to resist the enemy and to enjoy a new life in the great European home.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this milestone. Most importantly, words of sincere gratitude and a deep bow to sacrifice and fortitude of the Ukrainian army. In my opinion, it was the Ukrainian warrior who contributed the most to the success.

My gratitude goes to all Ukrainians, especially to the volunteers, activists, and representatives of civil society, because it was our monolithism, courage, and sacrifice that captured the hearts of hundreds of millions of Europeans and defined the position of European politicians. Let me thank all the diplomats for their traditionally professional and effective international performance.

The main thing is to win, to preserve our national unity and to build together a new European rich democratic Ukraine.
