Trade and economic cooperation

Moldova is one of the main regional trade partners of Ukraine.

Total trade turnover (goods and services) between Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova in 2020 amounted to $839.2 mln. (data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine).

Trade volume in goods totaled $753.8 million. At the same time, exports of goods to Moldova amounted to $679.7 million. In comparison with 2019, a decrease of 6.4%. Imports of goods amounted to $74.1 million, a decrease of 18.8%.

The balance of trade in goods was in favor of Ukraine – $605.6 million.

The main Ukrainian goods supplied to Moldova were metal products, electrical machinery, fuels and lubricants, food and pharmaceutical products, woodworking and construction products.

Crop production, wine and ethyl alcohol remained the main goods imported by Ukraine from Moldova.

Decrease of Ukrainian export to the RM was first of all due to deterioration of market conditions in the Republic of Moldova in connection with the measures on counteraction to spreading of COVID-19.

The volume of trade in services between Ukraine and Moldova in 2020 amounted to $84.4 million, of which exports of services – $57.3 million (an increase of 11.8% over 2019),services imports – $27.1 million (a decrease of 10.3%).

The balance in trade of services is positive – $30.2 million.

Direct investments from the RM in the economy of Ukraine as of 30.09.2020 amounted to $12.8 million, and from Ukraine in the economy of Moldova – $5.1 million.

An important instrument of bilateral cooperation development is the intergovernmental Ukrainian-Moldovan mixed commission on trade and economic cooperation. The working meeting of the heads of the national parts of the Commission was held on 30.01.2020 in Kyiv.

The Ukrainian part of the Commission is headed by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister for reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories O. Reznikov.

The 14th meeting of the Commission was held on September 18-19, 2017 in Odesa.

The working meeting of the co-chairs of the Commission was held on January 30, 2020 in Kyiv.
