State Secretary of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry Ruslan Bolbocean at the 10th NPT Conference

On August 4, 2022 the 10th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons took place at the UN Headquarters in New York. Secretary of State of the MFAEI of Moldova Ruslan Bolbocean participated in the conference and had a series of meetings with his counterparts from other states.

During the meeting with Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Romania Iulian Fota, the high level of bilateral political dialogue registered during the last period was noted. The Moldovan official expressed gratitude for all the assistance Romania has given to the country, as well as for the organization of the second donor conference, “Moldova’s Support Platform” in Bucharest.

The interlocutors also exchanged opinions about the latest developments in the regional security field. It was agreed to continue and deepen contacts at the level of the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.

The conversation with Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Mykola Tochytskyy focused on the current security situation in the region in the context of the war in Ukraine. They confirmed Moldova’s firm support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and once again stressed the importance of restoring peace and stability in the neighboring country.

The sides highlighted the positive dynamic of the Moldovan-Ukrainian dialogue at various levels, including at the inter-ministerial level, and expressed interest in keeping it regular.

At the meeting with Kazakhstan’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Akan Rakhmetullin, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral relations between Moldova and Kazakhstan. In this context, they expressed their desire to intensify Moldovan-Kazakhstanian cooperation in the field of mutual interest, including by intensifying bilateral dialogue, using the potential of economic and investment cooperation and increasing the volume of bilateral trade. A separate topic dealt with the interaction between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Also at the conference, Ruslan Bolbochan participated in the high-level event of the Stockholm Initiative on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

In his speech, Secretary of State Ruslan Bolbocean said that “the Republic of Moldova as a state party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons unequivocally supports the initiatives of the Stockholm Group and emphasizes their importance for the coagulation process. Different positions in one or more working papers initiated and promoted by a special group of states exponentially increase the chances for success not only of the NPT Review Conference, but also of the whole process of disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, despite obstacles and resistance from nuclear-weapon states”.
