Meeting with the Minister

On July 15 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba held the first meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs with honorary consuls of foreign countries accredited in Ukraine.

Mykola Skrypkovskyi, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova in Khmelnytsky region, also took part in the event.

“The Institute of Honorary Consuls plays an important role in supporting interstate dialogue, contributes to the development of trade, economic, cultural, scientific, tourist and other relations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is ready to support the honorary consuls for the benefit of Ukraine and its partners”, – emphasized the head of Ukrainian diplomacy.

Mr. Kuleba proposed to create a Council of Honorary Consuls of foreign countries to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to strengthen practical cooperation between Ukrainian diplomats and honorary consuls. He also said that opening new markets for Ukrainian products, attracting foreign investment and creating new jobs in Ukraine should remain a priority.

The Minister also spoke about the expected changes in the current legal framework to improve the activities of honorary consuls of foreign countries in Ukraine. According to him, in the near future the new regulations on honorary (non-staff) consuls of foreign countries and the consular offices headed by such consuls should be approved.

Using the opportunity, Honorary Consul Mykola Skrypkovskyi personally talked to Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and expressed support for the initiatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Skrypkovskyi and Kuleba also discussed the official opening of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in Khmelnytsky on September 3.
