The Feast of the Lord is celebrated annually on February 15. This day is one of the twentieth holidays – those dedicated to Christ and events from his life. The name of the holiday is translated as “meeting”, because on this day the Old and New Testaments meet. People associate the holiday with the meeting of winter and spring.
It was on this day, February 15, that little Jesus, on his 40th birthday, met in the Temple with righteous Simeon, who recognized him as the Messiah.
In honor of the Ascension of the Lord, water is consecrated in churches. Christians believe that this water has miraculous powers and can be stored for a long time without losing its special properties. Candles are also consecrated in temples. They are considered the main means for cleaning the house, taming quarrels, healing the soul and body. They are carefully kept all year round near the icons and lit during home prayer.
